Morality. It Has Been Questioned By People, Honored By People And Reve

Morality. It has been questioned by people, honored by people and revered since the beginning of time. Yet even today not one person can say what is morally right. It is a matter of opinion. It was Dr.Victor Frankenstein's opinion that it was alright to create a monster. Frankenstein's creation needed a companion. Knowing that his first creation was evil should the doctor make a second? With the knowledge at hand, to Dr.Frankenstein, it is not at all morally correct to bring another monster into the world. Looking at this probelm with his family in mind, the doctor begins his work on the second monster. The first monster threatened Frankenstein and even his family. The monster angrily said to Frankenstein, I can make you so wretched. (pg. 162) Trying to scare Frankenstein for not creating his mate the monster resorted to threats. If the good doctor does create a companion for his first creation he may be endangering others. The miserable monster whom I had created, (pg.152) says Victor upon looking back at his work. If there is another monster there will be twice the power and possibly twice the evil, which could hurt or kill his family. When and if Frankenstein commits the moral sin of creating another monster he may be rid of both monsters forever. With the companion you bestow I will quit the neighbourhood of man,(pg 142) promises the morally corrupt monster to the doctor upon the completion of his partner. When the doctor, if and when he, finished his first creation's mate there is a chance that the monsters will not keep their promise and stay in Europe envoking fear into townfolk. The good doctor, trying to act morally, destroys the monster for the good of the world. The monsters can potentially take over whatever they please. A race of devils would be propegated,(pg. 163) thinks Frankenstein to himself in his study. The monsters, if powerful enough, could possibly take over Europe. Frankenstein realizes that he can not possibly doom the world to benefit himself. Shall I, in coold blood, set loose upon the earth a daemon..(pg. 162) argues Frankenstein with his creation. It is not morally right for one person to unleash such a terror on the world to benefit only himself and his family. Frankenstein will not let any example change his mind on the point that the monster is and will always be morally corupt. Continuing on his point that the monster was too evil to duplicate, Frankenstein says, Your threats cannot move me to do an act of wickedness; but they confirm me in determination of not creating you a companion in vice.( pg. 163) Frankenstein will not sacrifi ce his morallity because of persuation from a monster. Although beholding the threat of death and misery Frankenstein held his ground and did not sacrifice his moral. When and if Frankenstein creates another monster he can not feel as if he has done the morally right thing. From creating the monster Frankenstein will some how be making people other than himself unhappy. I consent to your demand, on your solem oath to quite Europe forever, and every other place in the neighbourhood of man,(pg. 143) says Frankenstein as he sees the power that the two could possibly possess. The good doctor sees that with his own hands he could possibly scar the world forever. The doctor wants, if anyone, himself to be unhappy instead of all of man kind. Begone! I do break my promise, (pg. 162) states the doctor angrily. Not thinking about himself but the world unselfishly breaks his promise to the monster. Possessing such a great mind the doctor is able to realize that a greater evil will be realesed upon the earth then upon himself. Your threats cannot move me to do an act of wickedness,(pg. 162) says the doctor as he argues his point with his creation. The doctor sees that a greater and more horrible result can come from him making the second monster than not. With the knowledge at hand, to Dr.Frankenstein, it is not at all morally correct to bring another monster into the world. On the one hand if the second monster was created Frankenstein's family would be saved.

Music Trends Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Music Trends - Essay Example I believe that sampling is a positive thing in modern music. Sampling has gained a negative connotation among some people who argue that it is merely plagiarizing other peoples’ work or creations. Instead, sampling constitutes a means of creating new and hybrid forms of art. When one considers all forms of innovation there is the recurrent theme of past material being remixed or reimagined into new forms. Sampling then allows musicians to take complete advantage of digital technology and implement past styles and songs in the creation of new forms of musical expression. In some situations musicians should be required to pay other musicians for the use of their material. I believe that have a regulatory environment that places a strong emphasis on copyright infringement is not in the best interest of society. When independent or small scale musicians run the risk of a fine or lawsuit for sampling another musician’s music, then the legal system is too restrictive. However , in situations when the musician sampling the music is already well-established and there is significant monetary gain that is achieved, then I believe the law should be active in instituting regulations.

Accounting Project Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Accounting Project - Essay Example In 2011, its beer market I US was approximately $96 billion which shows a  down of 1%  compared to 2010. However, its net sales show a significant growth of 13.3% showing its success in capturing market share. BREW is now investing heavily in growth.1 Three creative beer making brands are owned by BREW. They always engage in the mixture and make of new beers and they attain even their own seasonal beers available only during their respective seasons. The company owns five brew-pub restaurants giving the company customer awareness that contributes highly to research and development. These restaurants help the company to keep in touch continuously with customers creating a good sense of brand loyalty. The industry the company is operating in is highly competitive and needs very hard work to have success in. Craft Brew competes in both the craft brewing market and in significantly larger alcoholic beverage markets well. This market encompasses imported and domestic beers, spirits, flavored alcohol beverages, ciders and wine. The competition in the specialty beer market and the domestic craft beer segment is based on taste, product quality, freshness and consistency, ability to differentiate products, product support and promotional methods, local appeal, distribution coverage and price. By the proliferation of the small craft brewers, also including the contract brewers, and the significant amount of products that such brewers offer, the craft beer segment has got increasingly competitive. Further, the craft brewers have also challenged us with more competition due to their peers expand distribution. Different regional markets are also means of varying competition. The company is also in competition against imported brands’ producers, such as Corona Extra, Heineken and Guinness. Most of such foreign brewers have got financial resources significantly greater than the company has. Although the imported beers account for a better share of

Sustainability and Waste Management Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Sustainability and Waste Management - Assignment Example There are different methods that can be used to extract unwanted solvents, for instance, boiling, grinding or distilling the unwanted solvent with appropriate solvents which are used less frequently. Blending could also be used especially if it is on a large scale and it is a continuous project. According to Limbachiya & London, determination of the method to use for removing the solvent requires that environmental concerns need to be taken care of, in that the method has to be approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. Regarding this, most United States EPA methods list sonification, a method of blending as a valid mode of extraction. This is very vital since using unauthorized methods could lead to penal action. The efficiency and cost of the method also have to be considered, methods like blending work in 10 to 15 minutes while solvent extraction could take up to twenty-four hours. However solvent extraction is much cheaper, therefore, a balance needs to be created in coming up with a method; costs versus efficiency. Light globes if discarded carelessly present a huge hazard to the environment and it is necessary that appropriate mechanisms should be adopted regarding their disposal. It is even better if the light bulbs are recycled to save vast resources. An office can save on its expenditures if it decides to recycle light globes. To develop an efficient recycling program, an office needs to follow the guidelines outlined in the subsequent paragraphs. A lot of research and learning should be carried out regarding recycling programs around the state the office is located that specifically deal with particular items like light globes. Office equipment should also be included as one of the recyclable items in the chosen company in case there is a need to recycle other items as the recycling system grows.

Synthesis of a New Potential Herbicide

Synthesis of a New Potential Herbicide CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Background of Study Since the beginning of the world, every creature in the world consumes food in order to survive. They ingest creatures in the sea, animals on the ground, or even vegetables on the land. In the olden days, the vegetables that mankind intake is without adding of synthetic chemicals or in other words it is organic. The purpose of adding chemicals during the vegetation process in this era of modernisation is to overcome undesirable situation like remove unwanted plants and eliminating pest. These chemical is known as pesticides. Pesticide is defined as chemical used for plant suicide. Generally, pesticide can be separate into four categories. There are insecticide, herbicide, fungicide and bactericides. Pesticides have cause pollution to the environment. It also has an impact towards animals, plant and mankind. Pesticide is a type of persistent organic pollutant to the environment because it is hard to degrade. The physical properties have disallowed degradation to occur. Examples of pesticide are paraquat, diquat, and DDT (Hafiza, 2014). In order to produce food in high yield, weed control is used. It is to ensure the food produce is economical beneficiary. The most common weed control used is by the use of herbicide. It was because herbicide is easy to use and it is efficient (Lodovichi et. al., 2013; Pannell et al.,2004; Parsons et al., 2009). Herbicide can be categorised. Normally herbicide is categorised based on mode of action. The herbicide normally work based on inhibition of enzyme or inhibit mitosis to occur (Fujiwara, 2014). Mankind need to produce more food. It was because the world population will rise to 9.6 billion people (Fujiwara, 2014). The food mankind need is going to increase since everyone need food. Yet, there are still famine going on in this era of millennium. Just in Africa alone there are more than 18,000 people are starving. Just because of food shortage, most of the children die before them reaching at the age of 5 (Missionaries of Africa, n.d). The need of food have cause human to use herbicide extensively. The extensive use of a single herbicide had cause the weed in the field to be herbicide resistant. Herbicide resistant in weed will cause several implications. It will cause the need to change a brand new weed and crop management system, cost ineffective in weed management, reduce in herbicide choice and low productivity of crop (WSSA, 2011). Thus, mankind need to produce more food for the generation to come. Yet, a cheaper pesticide is need for weed control. However, the used of pesticide can alter the gene of weed and it will resist toward the herbicide and a new herbicide is needed. The scope of study is synthesis a herbicide. The herbicide is a derivative from benzaldehyde, cyclohexanone and phenyl hydrazine. The synthesis of the derivatives it will then be test with thin layer chromatography (TLC). After, it will separate by using a silica column. Then, it is tested with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to structural confirmation. At last but not the least, the synthesised structure is subjected to herbicide bioassay test. Significant of Study The significant of the study is to synthesis a new potential herbicide. The synthesis of the potential herbicide is to allow a new herbicide to be accomplished in the market with new mode of action. The last invention of herbicide is at 1980’s (WSSA, 2011). Most of the researchers have ford see the future and synthesis a lot of brand new technology in a lot of area. However, the urgent development of a new herbicide to enhance food productivity and quality had been a concern. Herbicide resistant had been a serious matter to the world as it will affect food productivity. In nationwide, there are approximately 80% of herbicide resistant crop due to extensively use of a single type of herbicide. In side of these 80% herbicide resistant crop there are more than 90% were glyphosate resistant while the remaining percentages glufosinate resistant (Duke,2014). Thus, the urge of synthesis a new herbicide is needed to allow more choice of herbicide. In a conclusion, the need to develop a new herbicide is needed. It is to overcome the problem of increasing need of food, to resolve famine in Africa and improve food quality. Objective of Study The Objective of study is as below: To synthesised benzyldehyde, cyclohexanone, and phenyl hydrazine derivatives as potential herbicide To develop a new herbicide to resolve the problem of herbicide resistant To characterise benzyldehyde, cyclohexanone and phenyl hydrazine derivatives To overcome the problem of herbicide resistance CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Pesticide Human have the greatest mind of all among animal range from bacteria to the largest animal in the world. Human is creative. Mankind likes to solve problem. When there is a problem mankind tends to find out the ways to resolve the problems. As an example, there is a species of pest in the house and human use pesticide to eliminate it. Pesticide is not something trendy in this era. It have been used since century ago and the animal that mankind label as pest can be kill by using pesticide. The history of pesticide can ancient Romans lived. In that era of time, sulfur is burned to eliminate insect pest and weed is controlled by using salt. Later at the 16th century, the ant which mankind label as pest is killed by using the mixture honey and arsenic mixture. In the 16 century also, the Chinese uses nicotine to control plum curculio(Hassall, 1990). Then, human in the 19th century try to develop an effective pesticide. To control pest the farmer in the field in that century used sulphur, copper acetoarsenite, nicotine sulphate and calcium arsenate as pesticide. However, the effects are not that effective (John, 2010). There a lot of chemicals was introduce at post-world war II. The chemicals included BHC, aldrin, endrin, dieldrin, DDT, and 2,4 D (Muir, 2012). These chemicals use widely in that era. DDT is used as pesticide because of cheap, high effective and low toxicology (John, 2010). Where 2,4-D(agent orange) is being used as a herbicide due to inexpensive, high effective and easy to apply. However, pesticide have cost a lot of problem nationwide. During the world war II America used this herbicide, agent orange to attack Vietnam. In 1960’s, there is a book named slient spring whom author name Racheal Carson have raise the awerenes toward the usage of herbicide. In the book of silent spring, the author explains the bioconcentration, bioaccumulation and biomagnifications through the food chain. Pesticide can be categorized into many categories. These included acaricide, antimicrobial, attractant, avicide, fungicide, herbicide, insecticide, molluscicide, nematicide, piscicide, repellent, redenticide, and synergist. Different type of herbicide will target different type of pest group (Delaplane, 1996). Diagram 1, Types of pesticide and it’s target group. Adopted from, Delaplane, K.S. in pesticide usage in the united states: history, benefits, risks and trends The usage of pesticide is wide. It can be use in agriculture, public health, industry, household, personal application and material building. Usage of pesticide in India Diagram 2, usage of pesticide in India Adopt from, Gupta, P.K.(2004), Pesticide Exposure- Indian scene 2.1.1 Role of Pesticide in Agiculture The widely used of pesticide has cause some benefits to the nation as well as world. It was because the crop production annually will drop when pesticide is not used. One research had been done that when pesticide is ban, the crop production in United State alone will drop 73 percent. The decreasing in the crop production of groundnuts, cotton and soybeans will lead to instability of crop. At the same time, the decrease in crop production will affect the price of food and the famine in the world will increase (Delaplane, 1996; Knutson et.al., 1990). It was because increases in food crop production, pesticide is use in most of the developed countries. The increase of food crop production is simply because the resistant for plant to grow is minimized. Weed growth, insect attack and fungi can affect the nutrient availability in the environment. By using pesticide, control of weed, insect and fungi can be done. Thus increase nutrients availability in the soil and it could maximised the condition for crop to grow (Hassall, 1980). 2.1.2 Effect of Pesticide Since the beginning of civilization, human want to enchanced their living condition. The enchancement of living included increase food production. The increase of food production can be enchanced by the used of pesticide. However, pesticide has cause serious problem (Gupta,2004 ; Gupta, 1989). The amount of pesticide in the environment may be little but It may post a threat. In India between the years of 1958 to 1992, there are a total of eight cases of pesticide poisoning in food (Gupta, 2004). Pesticide also post threat toward marine and fresh water living organism (Edge, et. al., 2014). There is a study in Tanzania shows that it is having a high concentration of pesticide. In this country, pesticide leak to the environement as a result from improper storage. It has cause pesticide to run off to the river. After the split, high concentration of pesticide is detected from soil ( Mahugijia et.al., 2013; Kishimba and Mihale, 2004). However, after 15 years the concentration of pesticide is still high in that area after the cleaning up process and the degradation of pesticide is found to be insignificant (Mahugija at. al., 2013). 2.2 Herbicide and It’s Mode of Actions Weed is defined as a wild plant growing where it is not wanted and in competition with cultivated plants (Soanes and Stevenson, 2009). The first man who use the term weed is Jethro TÃ…Â ±ll in his book name â€Å"The New Horse Hoeing Husbandary† in 1973. Jethro define weed as plant grow out of place, undesired plant on field, unwanted plant grow where it is not suppose to be, or plants and vegetation that obstruct plant growth. Thus, weed is undesirable plant growth (My agriculture information bank, 2011). The existence of weed will have impact toward crop. There is a case study in India that show interaction between weed and crop. The result shows a decrease in crop production. Whereby, wheat reduced by 15-30%, rice by 30-35%, maize, pulse, oilseed and sorghum reduces 18-85% each (Gupta, 2007; Mukhopppadhyay, 1991-92 Balyan and Malik, 1994, Rita et.al., 1995 and yadav et.al., 1995). Existence of weed is also troublesome in some area. When the weed is present on the field, it made the work hard for applying fertilizers and hard to harvest the crop. The present of weed in field may also provide shelter for pest to live and it will further reduce the crop productivity. Thus, the present of weed had cause 2.2.1 Amino Acid Sythesis Inhibitors 2.2.2 Photosystem II Inhibitors 2.2.3 Auxins Typerherbicides 2.2.4 Mitotic Inhibitors 2.2.5 Photosystem I Inhibitors 2.2.6 Cellulose Biosynthesis Inhibitors 2.3 Herbicide Resistance 2.4 Multicomponent Reactions 2.4.1 Ugi Reactions 2.4.2 Biginelli Reaction 2.4.3 Sakurai Reaction 2.4.4 Streacker Reaction 2.4.5 Mannich Reaction 2.4.6 Hanztch Reaction 2.4.7 Application of Multicomponent Reaction Chapter 3 Methodology 3.1 3.2 3.3 3.4 3.5 3.6 Chapter 4 Expected Result 4.1

Recollecting One’s Childhood Memory

Childhood is the most innocent time of someone's life. With the passage of time, childhood fades into adolescence and then adulthood, yet the sweet memories of childhood linger on. My childhood recollections are those of a carefree life, nurtured with love and concern. I was the baby of the family with only one older sister. I don't remember much from when I was little, but I have a few memories that have stuck with me throughout the years. My family lived in a one story, barn red house on 9th street. Two houses down the road lived my best friends' grandmother who babysat her almost every weekend; two houses up the road lived my sisters' best friend, her two younger brothers, and across the street lived our other two friends. All of us would hangout every afternoon before dinner. In my mind nothing could go wrong, we were children who went to school, played and slept. I was in preschool at the time and one day I went to school and found out that my teachers' cat had kittens and if my parents said it was okay, I was able to take one home. That night I asked my mother if I could bring one home, and she said when they were big enough, I could pick one out and bring it home. My favorite kitten was mostly gray with some calico spots, and I was able to take her home. I named her Call. I was so excited that I had my very own cat! I couldn't wait to see her grow up. When I first took her home she was an inside cat only, but when she got bigger she was aloud outside. One day after school my sister and I went across the street to play with our friends and Call allowed, she loved to follow me around and play with me.While she was crossing the road, a car came and Instead of slowing down, they sped up and hit my cat In front of my sister and me. I was heartbroken and started bawling. My parents heard our screams and ran outside and across the street. My father picked me up and carried me home covering my eyes as we passed Call. When my sister and I calmed down my dad went an d got Call, dug a hole next to our rose bush, and burled her. From that day on I never understood how people could be cruel to animals.I love all animals and my heart aches when I see a dead or hurt animal on the side of the road. This memory Is one of the few I remember from my childhood, I believe that this memory I have makes me love animals with my whole heart and subconsciously makes me treat my animals Like they are my children. My love for animals Is greater than the love I have for myself. Recollecting One's Childhood Memory By Camaraderie's spots, and I was able to take her home. Formal Speech( Social Networks and Cyber Crime)

S P E E C H #03 Thank you Chair, As we know in the today’s world networks and communication has become a new dimension of our society. Almost everyone in our world is aware of internet and social networking sites on it. Now a day’s any rupture in internet can collapse the world economies and administrations. A large part of our population is rather prone to cyber crimes; yes the lovable internet is also a place to exercise easy piracy, frauds, hacking and other criminal activities.Cyber-threats are without doubt a new security challenge. Like most countries, Finland is increasingly dependent on a secure and functioning cyber-space and therefore increasingly vulnerable to unexpected and rapidly-emerging cyber-attacks. That is why we aim to become a global forerunner in cyber-security. While this will be the first such national strategy of its kind, the overall approach builds on decades of co-operation and co-ordination in crisis preparation and management. The guidelines for the new cyber-strategy were laid down in 2010 in the government’s broader Security Strategy for Society and the European Union’s Convention to counter cyber threats. At the moment, however, responsibility for cyber-security remains scattered between many different organisations and stakeholders, reflecting their specialist areas of expertise. This has slowed the creation of common objectives, with key decision-makers acting in relative isolation. Procedures and responsibilities during a nation-wide cyber-crisis have also yet to be defined with sufficient clarity. One of the main tasks of the current process, therefore, is to assess the need for a new authority to co-ordinate the strategy at a political level, as well as organising responsibilities at the operational level. Many of the risks of cyber-attacks are shared between the governments and the private sectors. And since most of the critical infrastructure is owned by the private sectors, the job of identifyin g and managing cyber-risks must be done in partnership. The forthcoming strategy will respond to all of these challenges by comprehensively analysing cyber-threats and deciding on the best way forward.

corruption Essay Example

corruption Essay Example corruption Essay corruption Essay Corruption is one of the deadly, undesirable and wicked sins that has been imposed on the innocent man by some hungry looking monsters. It is omnipresent, almost like a distorted, antithetical version of God for the present times. It doesnt sound euphonious when we hear that it has not only led to the malfunctioning of the administrative system and poor law and order, but also some serious causes like poverty and redtapism, which has led to the societys disability. It has distorted all values and made mincemeat of morality, truth and virtue. It has entered into every ingle aspect of our lives becoming all-pervasive Just similar to the air we breathe. It is growing massively in huge proportions and there is barely any sphere of social, political, economic and even religious activity that is free from graft, fraud and corruption of some kind. It is now regarded as a fact of life and an evil which is inseparable with which we have to live with throughout. It happens as much as in the daylight, as it is done behind the closed doors. It is under every stone we turn and every door we open. Thus, it is this corruption that an be considered as a deadly sin in our society and it is a shame that we are being evasive and denying this fact by considering it as a habit and a part of our lives. Human beings are full of temptations. After all human beings are human beings. And in fact, gold and cash acts as a bait to these politicians and officials who are fond of bribe in any way. They Just need something to avoid the itching on their hands. But the stink lies not only in the prevalence of the lure of gold, but in the hypocrisy that accompanies it. Its really disheartening when a corrupt person after taking a bribe, talks about the igh moral standards and urges people to follow the principles and ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi, and remain honest, true and Just in whatever they do. Such hypocrisy complexes the offence, but the ministers, politicians and officials are getting callous and do not pay any heed. They have a belief that it is all a way of life and a part of their routine and describe it as unavoidable and an incurable disease. Sadly, Just like one of the evil characters like Raavan in the human mythology Ramayana, there are plenty of greed addicts that are prevalent in the society which re pushing humanity into a medieval sort of decadence. Everyone now a days, from government officials to the Judiciary people to the private corporate gurus, all are thirsting for personal profits. The energetic youth today can be one source that can actually uproot the very weed of corruption. It can act like a Vanarsena and attack with full force the authorities which play the major culprit feeding this malady. Positive reforms should be brought out, so that we not only dream but also work together actively hand in hand towards developing a nation that is free from the evil called CORRUPTION. corruption By khanwasim

Poverty in the U. S. A. essays

Poverty in the U. S. A. essays The globe is divided between the rich and the poor. Through most of the 19th century and right up to the time of the Great Depression there was a theory: the poor are the lazy. The poor are the lowest quintile of the people who gave up on working and decided they were no longer going to work for living, and they were going to bum for living or even steel or rob others. The rich people, opposite to the poor, have a lot to show in life. This kind of people make a lot more money than most others do. The reason why they do so well in their lives is through training, education, intelligence, inborn skills, physical attributes, or just plain luck. The talent is very important. Those with outgoing personalities and good communication skills are doing the best in life. Take Britney Spears for instance, she is very talented and outgoing girl in her profession. Since a little girl she was very energetic and liked to dance to the music, and now she is a dancer and a singer. Neither she nor her mother never knew that she was going to become a singer, but she really made it. The rich do not always have the talent or good communication skills. There are also poor people that have talent and are out on the streets performing their skills and making just pennies to their pockets compared to the higher class-working class. There is an old saying: it is not what you know, it is whom you know. The education is very important, it seems to be a seniority in the U.S. The longer we stay in school, the more money we will make for the rest of our lives. The average college graduate will earn almost three times the income earned by someone who has not completed the eighth grade. Because of the skills and knowledge you will get better jobs and better salary. ...

International Business - Cultural Issues Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

International Business - Cultural Issues - Essay Example Culture is the mix of behaviors, thoughts, beliefs, symbols, and artifacts that are conveyed to people throughout an organization over time. Culture may include a belief about desired employee conduct. Keep communication channels open. Because an organization requires the cooperation of its members for survival, managers should encourage employee communication of its members for survival, managers should encourage employee communication. Committees, conferences and networks can all lay an important role in effective communication in organizations (Yvonne, 2000, p- 119). "A socially inherited body of sanctions and directives which define (he 'proper' and 'improper' ways of behavior" could help to highlight on one hand the complex environment to which one has to adjust; on the other, being assimilated by the individual, it functions part of the super-ego and conditions his tendency to autonomy." (Yvonne, 2000, p- 87) The important global pressures impacting International business practices in MNCs have grown in number, variety and complexity in recent times- thanks to the changes in information technology, dismantling of tariffs, differentiated labor laws, cultural and language barriers, bargaining practices etc. getting the right people with requisite skills, motivating them to accept the challenges in a foreign locale and extending family support through cultural orientation, language training and education assistance have become truly demanding. Any systematic study of a new geographic market requires a combination of tough mindedness and generosity. The appreciation of another way of life cannot develop when one is defensive about one's own way of life; it is necessary to be secure in one's own convictions and traditions. In additions, generosity is required to appreciate the integrity and value of other ways of life and points of view-to overcome the prejudices that are natural result of the human tendency toward ethnocentricity. When people from other countries like Chinese are haughty, patronizing, or arrogant, home-country ethnocentricity is probably contributing to the problem. Global marketers need to develop an objective standpoint that recognizes diversity and seeks to understand its origins. There are many paths to the same end in life. The successful global marketer knows this and rejoices in life's rich diversity. 4. High and low context cultures In a low-context culture, messages are explicit; word carries most of the information. In a high context culture, less information is contained in the verbal part of the message. Much more information resides in the context of communication, including the background, associations, and basic values of the communicators. In general, high context cultures function with much less legal paperwork than is deemed essential in low context cultures. Japan, Saudi Arabia, and other high context cultures place a great deal of emphasis on a person's value and

Frontline Analysis of Terrorist Attacks of September 11 Essay

Frontline Analysis of Terrorist Attacks of September 11 - Essay Example The first controversy that is detailed within this program is the lack of communication between US organizations such as the FBI and CIA. Former FBI agent, Ali Soufan is interviewed in this program and he describes how the CIA withheld information from the FBI which could have stopped the terrorist attacks on September 11th. According to Soufan, he requested information from the CIA on several occasions before the attacks because he was working on another terrorist attack that had occurred on the USS Cole in Yemen and was struggling to figure out specific connections between terrorist groups(â€Å"The Interrogator,† 2011). However, the CIA ignored all of his requests, but after September 11th, 2001, they suddenly began to provide him with documents and photographs which, if he had been given access to these sources earlier, he believes that the FBI would have been able to track down the people involved with 9/11 and ultimately been able to stop it. Ali Soufan did not really un derstand why he was ignored earlier, but most people seem to think that it had to do with miscommunication in that the CIA might have thought that the FBI and other agencies already had access to this information(â€Å"The Interrogator,† 2011). There is a lot of â€Å"what ifs† in this particular controversy as people imagine what the United States and the world might look like today if these two major agencies had been better at communicating with each other. There were other problems with communication as well when it came to interrogation techniques. Ali Soufan was one of the FBI’s foremost interrogators because of his ability to speak Arabic. He had spent a great deal of time questioning terrorist subjects; however, after September 11th, 2001, the United States decided to begin using enhanced interrogation techniques which included water boarding, nudity, sleep deprivation, and no toilets. Ali Soufan did not agree with these techniques because he believed th em to be ineffective in comparison to his own method of questioning. Ultimately, Soufan and others like him were replaced by experts in enhanced interrogation techniques. Soufan attempted to communicate his concerns about this, but no one really listened. He even spoke before the government with his identity concealed that there were plenty of examples which illustrated that techniques like water-boarding did more harm than good as terrorists simply give out false information in order to stop what some consider to be torture(â€Å"The Interrogator,† 2011). The controversy here stems from the fact that Soufan believes that no significant information has been gleaned from imprisoned terrorists using these severe interrogation techniques. However, those on the other side of the argument such as Dick Cheney, continue to defend these methods and say that they have been able to thwart many potential terrorist attacks because of it. The average American will never know the truth bec ause this controversey appears to be more of a difference of opinion than anything else with each side saying that the other is wrong. The average American is also unlikely to be aware of the controversey that surrounds how much money has been spent on counter-terrorism efforts and the ultimate impact that these efforts have had on stopping
